Beer Consulting Services, Beer Tasting Events, and More

Beer Menu Consultation and Planning

Consumers’ tastes in beer are becoming more and more sophisticated. Because of this your beer menu must be equally sophisticated in order to provide your customers with the culinary experience that they expect.

Would you serve a two dollar bottle of wine from a convenience store to your customers? Of course not, but by the same token you probably should expand your beer offerings beyond what’s commonly available on any supermarket shelf. Let me help you plan or upgrade your beer list. I will curate a customized and diverse list of exceptional beers for you that perfectly compliment your food offerings and your restaurant’s theme,  and I will work with the brewers and distributors to set up your supply. I will also periodically revisit your beer list to keep it fresh, seasonal, and inclusive of ever-evolving craft beer trends.

Wow your customers with the best tap and bottle list in town and they’ll be back for more. And they will tell their friends!

Staff Training and Technical Assistance

One thing I’ve always admired about wine service is the elegance and ritual with which it is done. Who doesn’t love it when a sommelier presents you an expertly chosen bottle and invites you to taste it before accepting it? Beer service is and should be less formal than that but some things do matter. If you do them properly a discerning beer customer will take notice.

  • Does your staff know which glassware to use for a given beer style?
  • Do they know what a “beer clean” glass is?
  • Do they know how to properly pour a beer from a tap or from the bottle to maximize the presentation, aroma and flavor that beer?
  • Finally, do they understand the routine maintenance necessary to keep your draft system optimized for every beer and beer style, and infection free?

I can teach them all of these things and more. Additionally, I can offer training for your staff so that they can pass the both the Certified Beer Server and Certified Cicerone exams.

Guest Cicerone- Group Tastings

There’s nothing better than getting together and sharing our love of beer. I can make your next private or corporate team building event fun, educational and memorable with a customized Group Tasting. Drinking beer is always fun but it can be so much more with a knowledgeable guide who can give you insights on the brew’s history, regional background, ingredients, flavor and aroma profiles, and ideas for great food pairings. Choose from any number of options; for example a tour of the classic Trappist and abbey ales Belgium or lagers of Germany, a seasonal selection of great Falls ales, or hoppy survey of the all of the great craft beer IPA varietals. The menu is up to you, and if you need ideas I can help you plan it!

Beer Education

Professional certifications are important, and that’s true in the beer industry too. I offer full-scope training for both the Cicerone Certified Beer Server and Certified Cicerone exams. I will explain the format of the test, what to expect in each module, and the areas that you MUST focus on in order to prepare for and pass the exam. We offer structured training sessions for each exam, typically 1-2 sessions for the CBS exam and 4-6 sessions for Certified Cicerone. Individual or group classes are possible, and we offer discounted group rates!
